With COVID-19, most of us have had some unexpected free time due to the lack of a commute while working from home and event cancellations. We asked Surdex staff how they have been spending their spare time, and they provided very interesting responses and pictures depicting their hobbies. Check out the pictures below to see what they’ve been up to!
Cody Sivocovich has been working on a complete custom build converting a 1983 Honda CB1000 motorcycle into a cafe racer (before photo on top, after photo on bottom).
Colby Forke has been raising monarch butterflies with his family.
Dan Brecht has been visiting the new climbing and yoga gym that just opened near his house.
David Schubert has been exploring drone photography and plans on getting his part 107 certification.
Deb Trautman was finally able to finish the summer necklace that had been on hold since last summer.
Dominick Schenewerk has had time to focus on outdoor photography, reorganize fishing gear and catch a five-pounder out of a pond.
Ed Turner has been able to work on this 108” wingspan unlimited class radio-controlled sailplane built from a discontinued Dynaflite kit.
Jennifer Narang is working on a tree house renovation, which has included installing raised garden beds, building a rain garden, any many other tasks. She is turning her backyard into a campsite at the edge of the woods, complete with a woodsy little cabin!
Jon Mueller enjoys photography, and he is able to observe wildlife in his yard while working at home.
Josh Adams has been able to do more reading.
Karl North has been working on his first car, which dates back to high school. The engine, drivetrain, chassis, exhaust and body are now good as new (or better) and just the interior needs finishing.
Kim Dedmon has been spending time with her grandkids, making biscuits, pizzas, cookies and a big mess!
Mike Mueller went 4 wheeling at 12,000 ft. elevations in Colorado.
Rachael Donaldson has been able to dedicate more time to her 110-gallon mixed reef and 29-gallon clownfish and anemone saltwater tanks.
Rick Hoffmann has been flying 300 miles cross-country with no engine!
Steve Devillez has been spending time at the golf course.
Tim Bohn has been working on his 2020 goal of riding 500 miles on his bike, and was able to scratch off a bucket list ride – riding to Surdex from home (27+ miles)! He has been trying to do as many things as he can outside, including golfing and running a 10k.
Tim Donze has been doing some wildlife habitat work, including a small controlled burn.
Tracy Ray has been working on her pie crust decorations.
Troy Rogers has been playing with trains with his son (they were able to go to a convention in February).
Mark Zeman did a research project about forgotten St. Louis history, posting 1 story a day for 100 days on Facebook. This was inspired by “The Decameron” (1353) about a group of ten people riding out the plague in Italy, who took turns telling stories to pass the time.
