Acquisition Challenges
Acquisition is one of the most important stages of an aerial mapping project – but it is also one of the most complex. Numerous factors can limit our acquisition window, such as ground and atmospheric conditions (i.e., snow and/or cloud cover), proximity to restricted airspace, and local hangar space near the project area. When speaking of Surdex’s flight crews, our Chief Pilot, Paul Briggs, said they “are constantly creating solutions to the daily challenge to make acquisition happen. A major challenge is having to pick up and move at a moment’s notice in order to be in position to make significant progress on a project.” Paul coordinates with his team every day – sometimes even on weekends and holidays – to ensure all projects stay on track!
